The PG Kostyuk Foundation was announced at the gala meeting of the Fifth Congress of Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience. P.G. Kostyuk was a prominent Ukrainian scientist. For many years, he headed the worldwide known Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology. Oleg Krishtal, a pupil of P.G. Kostyuk and now the president of Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience and Director of the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology, gave a commemorative speech describing how P.G. Kostyuk impacted Neuroscience. Oleg Krishtal highlighted that P.G. Kostyuk formed a large school of physiologists that are well-known in Ukraine and throughout the world. The pupils of P.G. Kostyuk intend to put together their efforts in order to preserve and advance achievements of the school. A group of scientists that currently work abroad established based on their private contributions the P.G. Kostyuk Fund, which aims to support young ambitious Ukrainian physiologists.
The president of Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience informed that this year P.G. Kostyuk Fund selected two young researchers out of nine contestants from various Ukrainian research centers and Universities. Diplomas of the Award were presented to Olga Kopach and Oleg Tsupikov. Both researchers recently finished post-graduate programs at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology.
Attendants of the Congress applauded to the winners. Lydmila Vasilievna Kostyuk, wife of Platon Grigorievich, and his grandson Pavel were present during the ceremony.
In his closing remarks, Oleg Krishtal thanked P.G. Kostyuk Fund and described the enthusiasm of Ukrainian scientists about establishment of the Fund. He further emphasized that the Award is very important for young Ukrainian scientists.
